BISMARCK, N.D. (FEB 27, 2024) – The North Dakota Industrial Commission, comprised of Governor Doug Burgum, Attorney General Drew Wrigley, and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, released the following statement regarding the passing of former Bank of North Dakota President and CEO Eric Hardmeyer, who began his career with the Bank in 1985 and served as the Bank’s President and CEO from 2001-2021. Hardmeyer died Saturday, Feb. 24, at the age of 64.
"Eric was the longest serving president in the Bank’s 105-year history – a testament to his talent, skill and steadfast devotion to serving the citizens of North Dakota. Under his exceptional leadership the Bank launched countless innovative programs to support North Dakota students, businesses, farmers and ranchers. He guided the Bank to 16 consecutive years of record profits and a sevenfold growth in asset size. Through his dedicated service to the Bank, the Industrial Commission and private sector bank partners in communities across the state, he built a legacy that will impact North Dakotans for generations to come. We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family, friends and banking colleagues.”
Current BND President and CEO Todd Steinwand also expressed condolences on behalf of the Bank employees. “Eric was a courageous, visionary leader and a mentor to many. The entire BND Team is grateful for his unwavering commitment to our mission, and we extend our condolences to his family and friends,” he said.
The Industrial Commission oversees the Bank of North Dakota, the only state-owned bank in the country.
