North Dakota's Outdoor Heritage Fund was established in 2013 as a multi-million dollar program to provide grants to state agencies, tribal governments, political subdivisions, and nonprofit organizations, with higher priority given to projects that enhance conservation practices in this state by supporting one or more statutorily identified directives.  

The Outdoor Heritage Fund will receive up to $40 million per biennium from oil and gas production tax revenue.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Industrial Commission today approved more than $2.8 million in grants during the latest grant round for the Commission’s Lignite Research, Development and Marketing Program. The funding for this program is generated from lignite severance tax as well as oil and gas production tax revenue. The program supports the growth of North Dakota’s lignite industry through research and education.

The North Dakota Transmission Authority (NDTA) is soliciting applications for utility electric grid resilience projects.  The special grant round will have the capacity to award $2,843,075. Of this amount, 85% is from the Department of Energy IIJA Grid Resilience Formula Grant and 15% is from North Dakota state legislative appropriations.
